ABOUT ANDY MAISEL
My fine woodworking journey began over 35 years ago in a historic, artisan collaborative in Fells Point, Maryland. Inspired by my mentor and true period craftsman, Neil Schlag, I learned to see proportion that encourages visual exploration – allowing one’s eyes to travel the various lines and intersections that comprise the whole. As a young teenager, I became engrossed in honing traditional joinery skills to realize and craft fine pieces of enduring furniture.
More so, my mentor, taught me to see beauty expressed in all of life ~ to endeavor to live intentionally. This calling delivered me to the mountains of Western Montana in the early 1990’s, where I remain. I am deeply committed to a wellness lifestyle and a sustainable future ~ an inspired life, living into what may emerge.
Ancestrally Rooted
I am a 5th generation woodworker…in 1841, my great great grandfather, a carpenter, arrived in the U.S. from Bavaria through the port of Baltimore establishing a continuous line of woodworkers.
Employing their hand tools today, a somatic recognition is experienced - a connection to purpose discovered in creative expression and laborious effort.
